Find Somewhere to Train OCR

The Obstacle Course Racing Association of Ireland (OCRA ÉIREANN) wants to make it easier for people to find facilities where they can train for obstacle racing.

OCR training can involve a combination of running, strength, grip, climbing, balance, carries and technical obstacle skills.

Having access to purpose-built obstacles can make a major difference when preparing for an OCR event or developing more advanced obstacle technique.

OCR Training Facilities

OCR training can take place in a variety of environments.

Facilities may include:

  • Dedicated OCR gyms
  • Outdoor obstacle training facilities
  • Adventure centres
  • Fitness facilities with OCR equipment
  • Ninja or obstacle training centres
  • Club-operated training facilities
  • Temporary or seasonal OCR training venues

Training for Your First OCR

You do not need access to every possible obstacle before entering your first OCR event.

General running, strength and fitness training can provide a strong foundation.

However, training on common OCR obstacles can help you become more comfortable with:

  • Hanging and traversing
  • Monkey bars
  • Rigs
  • Rope climbing
  • Walls
  • Carries
  • Balance obstacles
  • Grip-based challenges

Competitive Training

Athletes preparing for competitive OCR may benefit from facilities that allow more specific training for technical obstacle racing.

Depending on the discipline, this may include preparation for:

  • 100m
  • 400m
  • Short Course
  • Standard Course
  • Qualification events
  • National Championships
  • International competition

Own or Operate an OCR Facility?

If you operate a gym or training facility in Ireland that provides suitable obstacle training, you can apply to have your facility listed in the OCRA directory.

OCRA wants to build stronger connections between training facilities, clubs, coaches, athletes and race organisers throughout Ireland.
