Event support

Helping deliver OCRA events, National Championships and qualification competitions: athlete registration, course support, start and finish areas, athlete information, medal ceremonies, equipment, logistics, volunteer coordination and general operations.

This is the most direct way in, and it is where most people start.

Technical officiating

If the sporting and technical side of competition appeals to you, Technical Officials are the people who keep the rules applied fairly and consistently. It has a development pathway of its own and it goes as far as international competition.

Team Ireland support

Major championships need support beyond the competition itself — team administration, athlete communications, logistics, team activities, media and general championship support.

Clubs and community

Local work counts as much as national: helping clubs, community activities, training groups, youth programmes, club events and local development.

OCRA projects

As OCRA develops, so does the range of things that need doing — communications, social media, photography and media, website and technology, event planning, sponsorship, club development, education, administration and research.

You do not need previous sports administration experience. Skills from outside the sport are often exactly what is missing.

One event or an ongoing role

Some people want to help at a single race. Others want to take on an area properly. Both are genuinely useful, and nobody will push you from the first towards the second.

If the role involves young people

Volunteer roles working with children or young people may require safeguarding training, Garda Vetting or other requirements. These are explained before you start, not after — see safeguarding.
